OPERA FOR ALL

Granollers, Reus, Girona, Figueres, Lleida, Tarragona, Viladecans, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Cornellà de Llobregat, Manresa, Vic, Santander, Barcelona… this network of 14 cities, woven from the heart of Sabadell, a city with a long historical textile tradition, has reason to rejoice.

We are all happy to offer the people of our cities and of all Catalonia the 40th edition of a unique proposal, built on a distinctive shared model of which we are proud: a close-at-hand opera season. It is a format tailored to the need of our cities, theatres and, most importantly, people.

Once again this year, the “Òpera a Catalunya” cycle seeks to be the necessary project that our founder, Mirna Lacambra, conceived 41 years ago. That is to say, a company that offers large-format opera with simple honest values: quality, nearness to the audience, ambition, professionalism, democratisation, creation of opportunities, and decentralisation. This is opera made in our cities and for our cities and their inhabitants. Opera based on the collective participation of spectators, professionals, theatres, public institutions and sponsors.

Initially at Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell and now at Fundació Òpera a Catalunya, we work to bring Catalonia together through culture, based on a model that facilitates access to the stages of our theatres and that offers major productions which fit their needs.

What’s more, we are committed to professional growth, accompanying the careers of our singers, musicians and technical teams. This model has allowed us to support and to assist in the launch of young talent beyond our borders as well as to create stable pioneering ensembles such as the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès and the choir Cor dels Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell.

We have been able to make these projects a reality thanks to the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia and with Fundació Banc Sabadell, and to the support of Fundació Fluidra and of Barcelona Provincial Council, with the accompaniment of Sabadell City Council and of the Spanish Ministry of Culture. And we have done so, above all, thanks to the commitment of the 14 cities and of the thousands of spectators who, year after year, experience the season as a wonderful project of their own.

We are, all together, Òpera a Catalunya – an innovative model of cultural management with the involvement of
public administrations, cities and corporate foundations, and with two truly outstanding entities of the culture sector,
namely, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès and Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell.

All of this is very important to us but, above all, we seek to share and to spread the fondness for good opera, unique experiences, and emotion and excitement.

For now and always: Opera for all!
