COR AMICS DE L’ÒPERA DE SABADELL

The choir Cor Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell was organised in 1982, coinciding with the founding of Associació d’Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell (AAOS). Its debut performance was in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly, on 7th October of that year, when AAOS was presented to the audience. After more than 40 years and nearly one thousand performances of opera, zarzuela and concerts, the choir has gathered a wealth of experience in the lyric world.

In 1992, the choir performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, substituting the theatre’s choir in the opera Maria Stuarda, with praise from the audience and the press alike. Subsequently, following the fire that devastated the Liceu, a Federation of Associations of Friends of the Opera of Catalonia was organised, with Mirna Lacambra as its president, to promote the rebuilding of the theatre, and Cor Amics de l’Òpera de Sabadell was the first to perform at the Rambla de Barcelona, in front of the Liceu.

The choir is formed by some sixty singers from Sabadell, Barcelona and the regions in the Barcelona area. In 2003, Maestro Daniel Gil de Tejada took up the direction of the ensemble, which maintains the collaboration of the pianist Andrea Álvarez. Since 1989 it has participated in the “Òpera a Catalunya” cycle which, managed by FOC, carries opera to towns throughout Catalonia.
